My Man Meme

 

1. Who is your man? Mike, aka Michael, Miguel and a few cute names he would not want me to share.

2. When did you meet? Late summer of 1993.
3. How long have you been married? Since June 1996, so 12.5 years.

4. How old is your man? Seven years and 361 days older than me.
5. Who eats more? Meals-him, snacks-me.
6. Who said "I love you" first? He did.
7. Who is taller? Mike by 6.5 inches. I love his height!

8. Who sings better? Definitely me.
9. Who is smarter? He says I am. I say he is.
10. Whose temper is worse? I get angry easier, he stays angry longer.
11. Who does the laundry? Me, I banished him from the laundry room shortly after our wedding.
12. Who takes out the garbage? He does.
13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Me, though I have been known to encroach on his side.
14. Who pays the bills? He does, but we hold weekly budget meetings.
15. Who is better with the computer? Me, except for Excel, then definitely Mike.
16. Who mows the lawn? He does. I have never admitted that I can mow the lawn.
17. Who cooks dinner? Usually me, but he is a great Sous Chef and dishwasher.
18. Who drives when you are together? Depends on whether we want to get somewhere on time or we are just out for an afternoon drive.
19. Who pays when you go out? He does.
20. Who is most stubborn? Absolutely me.
21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? Sadly, it's him. I'm wrong just as often. It usually takes me longer to figure out I am wrong.
22. Whose parents do you see the most? It's a draw. We usually see both our moms 1-2 times per month.
23. Who kissed who first? He kissed me first. I remember it like it was yesterday…
24. Who asked who out? He asked me. It took him two years, but he finally worked up the courage to ask me out.
25. Who proposed? He did. That only took him four months of dating.

26. Who is more sensitive? Me.
27. Who has more friends? Me, though not by many.

28. Who has more siblings? He does, he has five, four brothers and one sister.
29. Who wears the pants in the family? He does, but I pick them out.

30. How did you meet? We met at Warehouse Christian Ministries Singles group. He said I was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen *blush*.
31. What are your three favorite traits about him? I love his strength of character, his goofy jokes and his methodical, analytical approach to life. Oh and he is very cuddly. That's extremely important!

Holding Fast: A Grief Conquered by Faith

I just finished reading a terrific book, Holding Fast: The Untold Story of the Mount Hood Tragedy. I reviewed the book as part of Thomas Nelson's Book Review Blogger program. I posted my review on Amazon.com and wanted to share it with my Writing From Home readers, too.

In Holding Fast, Karen James takes readers on an intimate and emotional journey of faith and grief. Karen's husband Kelly—an accomplished mountain climber—left for a weekend climb on Mount Hood in Oregon, with two friends in December of 2006. When they failed to meet their ride at the end of the trek, Karen was thrust into a very private nightmare and a very public spotlight.

America watched as she spent eight agonizing days waiting, hoping and praying for Kelly's safe return while the mountain experienced the worst snowstorms in a decade. On December 17^th, rescue workers retrieved Kelly's body from a snow cave near the summit. His companions were never found.

Karen's faith in Jesus Christ quickly became her rock, the only solid thing she could cling to that would keep her from succumbing to grief.

"When your world falls out from underneath you and you are on your knees, there is nowhere to look but up. Suddenly everything you have claimed about your God and your faith is put to the test. During such a time, you learn where you stand with your Maker, and the most significant question of your life slaps you right in the face: Do you really believe?"

The answer to this question for Karen James is, "Yes—I really believe."

Holding Fast is the story of a man who lived life to its fullest and loved God wholeheartedly. It is also the story of a woman who learned to live without the love of her life and discovered an even greater love.

I remember when the Mount Hood tragedy dominated the news nearly two years ago. I was one of the millions who prayed for the safe return of all three climbers. It was fascinating to relive those events through Karen James' perspective. She really takes the reader into the deep places of hope, grief, acceptance and perseverance. I appreciated her vulnerability. Holding Fast will encourage others who grieve to anchor their souls to Jesus Christ.

How’s Your Love Life?

That’s a rhetorical question, intended to make you think about it. Please don’t leave intimate details about your marriage in my comments.

A comparison was made in my women’s Bible Study: sexual intimacy is to marriage what prayer is to our relationship with God. Both are the expression of a deep love and commitment. Without either, our relationships suffer.

So, think about it. Is your love life with God all you want it to be? Do you feel connected to Him in a special way? If not, maybe it’s time to get on your knees. Rekindle your prayer journal and reconnect. Or maybe, like me you need to fill the room with worship music and surrender yourself to prayer in worship, hands-to-heaven style.
