Our second shout-out today goes to Joanne Kraft. Joanne just sold three humorous articles to Vista. She met James Watkins, Vista’s editor at the Mount Hermon Christian Writer’s Conference last spring. After their meeting, Jim read Joanne’s blog, “Blessed…” and enjoyed her humor and down-to-earth writing style. He asked Joanne the next day if she would send him a clever piece she wrote about her thoughts while trying on clothes in a department store titled, “Are You Listening, Mr. Dressing Room Mirror?”
Joanne submitted that article and two others she thought would fit nicely in Vista after returning from Mount Hermon. All three articles sold!
So, help me congratulate Joanne on her exciting successes.

Hello Inspire Writers,
One of my favorite topics of this blog involves celebrating our successes. We have had several exciting writing projects sold recently. So today we will celebrate three of them. Let’s start with Sue Tornai.
Sue recently sold fourteen Bible stories to Augsburg Fortress for inclusion in their Spark Story Bible. It is a brightly colored and beautifully illustrated Bible for children ages 2-8. Sue’s passion for God’s word shines through in her creative and accurate retelling of stories from The Bible.
I asked Sue how she got this wonderful assignment. “I applied for an assignment writing for Davey and Goliath Family Devotions with Augsburg Fortress. They sent me a mock assignment. I wrote the devotion for it and instead of assigning me a devotion, they offered me a contract for the Spark Story Bible.”
Sue brought a copy to our Inspire critique meeting and we all admired it!
She also sent a copy to Uganda for the orphans at the Osia School. The children love to hear the stories as they are read to them each day. I understand Sue’s grandchildren are also enjoying a copy.
Sue said, “Writing for this story Bible has been the highlight of my career so far. I learned a lot and drew closer to God in the process.”
Congratulations Sue, we are so proud of you!

Augsburg Fortress. When she is not writing, Sue enjoys camping and fishing
along the lakes and rivers of Northern California and teaching Sunday school. One
of her favorite pastimes is reading historical Bible fiction. She is currently
writing a novel and screenplay in this genre.

On Saturday, March 14, Greg Cochran held a book signing at The Bible House of Elk Grove. It was a fun event and I am excited to finally have a copy of Greg's book, Saving Grace. Even though The Bible House had light foot traffic, Greg had a very successful event. Most of his books sold within the last half an hour. He enjoyed interacting with readers and signing their books. I enjoyed meeting Greg's family (Hello Edie!) and listening to him and my husband share stories of growing up near San Francisco.

Sue just signed a contract for the publication of "Soft, Squishy Stuffed Animals." The article tells about Theresa Francesconi, a young girl who started a stuffed animal ministry that provides squishy friends to hospitalized children. The article will appear in the September 2009 edition of Pockets. The editor was so pleased with Sue's submission, she requested more articles!
Sue has published many non-fiction articles and recently contributed to a non-fiction book. She blogs at Reflections of God's Glory. Her current work-in-progress is a youth novel about Salome, the daughter of Herodias who danced before King Herod.
